It starts with the removal of the transmission then followed by loosening of the six bolts that hold the flywheel on the crank shaft flange and pointing out that the holes are not of equal spacing in order to guide the installation of the flex plate. If so, it's time to take off the flex plate and check for cracks, the part must be replaced when it is cracked. After that, you have to smooth both the flange of the crankshaft and the flex plate ; special attention has to be given to the presence of any burr, which has to be removed with a special file-the mill file. After that, place the flex plate and torque-tighten the bolt to the stated measure up. To inspect flex plate run-out install a dial indicator on the three bosses that attach to the flex plate, with crankshaft end play taken up in one direction, the run-out value should not exceed 0.015 in. If the run-out is over this limit it may be necessary to tap lightly on the high side of the flex plate with a mallet etc. If so, take out the flex plate and examine the flywheel flange for sharp edges, or burrs.
