Remove the vibration damper. See how the seal was fitted; the new one has to be put in to the same depth and in the same alignment. Using the seal puller or the large screw driver, pull the oil seal out of the cover making sure that you do not drop the crankshaft at the same time. Be wary not to twist the cover out of shape or scratch the crankshaft and preferably wind electrician 's tape around the end of the screwdriver. Apply clean engine oil or multi-purpose grease to outer diameter of the new seal and then, fit it to the cover with the lip (spring side) located towards the inside. When the seal is properly aligned on the bore square up the seal, and then tap the seal into place using a large socket and hammer or, if no large socket is available, using a length of pipe, continue tapping the seal until its front face is the correct depth. Last of all, replace the vibration damper.
