Remove the transmission, ensuring that if the vehicle has a manual transmission, the pressure plate and clutch are also taken out. To prevent the crankshaft from turning, jam a large screwdriver in the starter ring gear or driveplate hole, then remove the mounting bolts while supporting the flywheel as the last bolt is taken out due to its weight. Pull straight back on the flywheel driveplate to detach it from the crankshaft, noting the shim installed between the driveplate and crankshaft on vehicles with an automatic transmission, and be careful not to lose it. For vehicles with a manual transmission, check the pilot bushing and replace it if necessary. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the hole in the flywheel/driveplate aligns with the dowel pin in the crankshaft, applying Locktite on the bolt threads and tightening them to the specified torque in a criss-cross pattern.
