The Clutch pilot bearing is located at the other end of the crankshaft; it is pressed into place to support the front of the driveshaft and should be checked whenever the clutch components are removed off the engine. If there is any doubt about its condition, it is far better to change it as quite often, the engine has been removed from the car it has to be bolted to something. First, you have to pull out transmission and the drive line support/driveshaft, second-all the clutch parts. If the bearing is worn, rough or dry or shows any sign of other abuse it is recommended to change it. The removal can be done using a small slide-hammer and puller attachment that can be bought in auto parts stores and tool supply outlets once one has removed the driveshaft tunnel panel fasteners and the panel in question. After the removal of the bearing, the bore must be cleaned and the area in the crankshaft recess behind the bore. In a new pilot bearing, it is advisable to grease the outer surface with lithium based grease so that you have to drive the bearing into the recess till it lies flush with the crankshaft using a hammer and bearing driver or socket. Finally we replace all the clutch components, transmission and all the other parts that have been first removed in the process and make sure all the bolts are well tightened.
