Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Bearing

The Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Bearing is a bearing that keeps the manual transmission input shaft perfectly centered so engine power is sent into the gearbox without noise or grind. This Pilot Bearing is mounted in the snout of the crankshaft or sometimes flywheel, which is responsible for bearing the spinning shaft when the clutch engages and disengages the transmission so that the friction is cut and doesn't wear the parts, wasting horsepower. Over the years, two main styles have served Chevrolet performance needs: a true Pilot Bearing with miniature balls or rollers rolling on hardened races and a pilot bushing made of porous bronze that rotates on a thin oil film. The bearing style copes with both radial and light axial forces at higher shaft speeds, providing for silkier shifts during aggressive Corvette acceleration, while the bushing is simpler and quieter in less demanding service. Regardless of style, each Pilot Bearing must remain free of scoring, roughness, or wobble since failure announces itself with chirps, vibration, and stubborn engagement of the gears. Replacing a worn Pilot Bearing restores crisp shifts and protects the legendary Corvette driving experience that every Chevrolet enthusiast loves.

Each OEM Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Bearing we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to inspect and replace the clutch pilot bearing on Chevrolet Corvette?
    A:
The Clutch pilot bearing is located at the other end of the crankshaft; it is pressed into place to support the front of the driveshaft and should be checked whenever the clutch components are removed off the engine. If there is any doubt about its condition, it is far better to change it as quite often, the engine has been removed from the car it has to be bolted to something. First, you have to pull out transmission and the drive line support/driveshaft, second-all the clutch parts. If the bearing is worn, rough or dry or shows any sign of other abuse it is recommended to change it. The removal can be done using a small slide-hammer and puller attachment that can be bought in auto parts stores and tool supply outlets once one has removed the driveshaft tunnel panel fasteners and the panel in question. After the removal of the bearing, the bore must be cleaned and the area in the crankshaft recess behind the bore. In a new pilot bearing, it is advisable to grease the outer surface with lithium based grease so that you have to drive the bearing into the recess till it lies flush with the crankshaft using a hammer and bearing driver or socket. Finally we replace all the clutch components, transmission and all the other parts that have been first removed in the process and make sure all the bolts are well tightened.
