Pull the cable away from the terminal connection with the negative battery pole. For this purpose, two Torx screws on the back of the steering wheel have to be unscrewed to release the airbag and afterwards the airbag has to be tilted downward to release its electrical connectors for removal/installation on 1997 models. If the airbag is to be taken out, lay the airbag face upward in a safe area that does not have any electrical products; installation is just the opposite of the removal process. To passengers side on 1998 to 2006 models, remove the lower
Steering Column shroud and then remove the approximately two or four bolts that is at the back of the steering column, tilt the air bag downwards, then you disconnect the electrical connectors, take out the airbag and then place it faced up securely. Installation is done in the opposite manner, that is from the last component to the first. For 2007 and later models, with a flat-bladed screwdriver, you have to put into the small holes on both sides of the steering wheel to push the retaining spring downward and liberate the airbag. Turn the airbag down to snap off the electrical contacts, then lay it facedown on a clean surface and to reinstall rehook the electrical connectors, slide the long tabs or horns of the airbag into the holes in the steering wheel and push till a click is heard. In extracting the mechanism of steering wheel, one has to unbolt the airbag, align the wheel to a straight position, then unbolt the nut of the steering wheel. Ensure that there present alignment marks on the
Steering Shaft and the steering wheel hub before detaching the steering from the shaft, this could be done by using puller. If the clockspring is to be removed then the steering column should be disassembled to access up the clockspring, the electrical connectors must be disconnected and the clockspring mounting screws must be slackened. They include; Proper positioning of the wheels and the steering shaft in such a way that: the wheels are straight in front and the shaft in the 12 O'clock position as the clock spring is installed. Rotate the clockspring hub clockwise until it no longer rotates, then counter clockwise until the centering window is yellow and arrow are aligned, on models without a yellow lens then turn the hub clockwise and counter clockwise 2 ½ times. The rest is the process of reverse of removal, make sure that the index mark is well aligned on the part of the steering wheel next to the hub with the mark on the shaft, fit the steering wheel nut or bolt and tighten it, the airbag module should be fitted on the steering wheel, and the airbag system should be enabled.
