On 2016 and later models (except Malibu Limited), the shift lever assembly consists of the shift lever assembly and a floor mount bracket. Begin by setting the parking brake and chocking the wheels, then place the transaxle in Park. Remove the
Shift Knob and boot, followed by the center console to expose the shift lever assembly. Next, remove the bolts and the driver's side center console brace. Press the cable housing tabs to disengage the cable from the shift lever assembly bracket, and if equipped, remove the retainer and pry the
Shift Cable from the shift lever pin. For 2015 and earlier models (and 2016 Malibu Limited), from the driver's side of the shift lever assembly, remove the single bolt below the front corner, then remove the remaining three bolts attaching the shift lever assembly to the vehicle. For 2016 and later models (except Malibu Limited), remove the single nut and bolt attaching the shift lever assembly to the floor mount bracket, then slide the shift lever assembly forward and up to remove it. The floor mount bracket can be removed with the shifter or separately by removing the nuts securing it to the vehicle and disconnecting the harness clips. Installation is the reverse of removal, and adjust the shift cable as necessary.
