To begin, relieve the fuel pressure and detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For 1.6L engines, remove the front intake manifold stiffener bracket, while for 2.0L engines, remove the PCV hose and breather hose. Disconnect the fuel supply hose banjo fitting from the rear end of the fuel rail and the fuel return hose from the
Fuel Pressure Regulator. Unplug all four fuel injector electrical connectors and set the injector wire harness aside. Remove the three fuel pressure regulator mounting bolts to detach the fuel rail/injector assembly from the cylinder head by pulling and wiggling it. Remove and discard the old cushions from the injector bores, ensuring to use new cushions when reinstalling the injectors. Then, remove the four fuel rail insulators from the cylinder head, inspecting them for wear; if they are in good condition, they can be reused. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel rail by pulling them straight out, discarding the O-ring and seal, and placing them in a clearly labeled storage container. If replacing the injectors, discard the old injector, grommet, and O-ring; if only replacing leaking O-rings, remove and discard the old grommet and O-ring. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to tighten the fuel rail mounting bolts to the specified torque.
