To remove the switch, unbolt the ground cable from the battery, and the Theftlock audio system lockout if present. Move the transaxle into the NEUTRAL position and thereafter, jack up the vehicle and thereafter support the vehicle on two jackstands. Start from the Neutral start switch and follow the wire harness right up to the connector; remove the connector from the retention clips. Lift back of vehicle and disconnect electrical and vacuum connectors from cruise control servo if equipped, remove servo and place to side. Finally, after the nut is removed, separate the shift lever from the transaxle, and after some other bolt removal, separate the switch. If the original switch is to be reinstalled simply scribe a line on the switch mounting bracket around the heads of the mounting bolts to assist in correct alignment. In setting the switch, engage the flats on the shift shaft with those in the switch and lower it on the shaft then fix the bolts. If both the switch blades are new and the shaft is not in use, then the four bolts available must be tighten; but if an adjustment needs to be done, the four bolts must remain loosened. For adjustment, bring the outer notch in the switch into contact with the inner notch of the shift shaft and then tighten the switch bolts. Last but not the least, connect the third negative cable and check if the engine starts only in Neutral or Park only.
