    How to remove and install the turn signal switch on Pontiac Grand Prix?
    A:
    Detach the cable from the negative battery terminal and disable the airbag system if equipped, ensuring the theft lock audio system's lockout feature is turned off before disconnecting the battery. Remove the steering wheel, then take out the airbag coil retaining snap ring and the coil assembly, allowing it to hang by the wiring harness. Remove the wave washer and use a lock plate removal tool to access the retaining ring, prying it out with a small screwdriver. On 1997 and later models, simply remove the retaining screws from the upper and lower steering column covers to access the switch, separating the tum signal switch electrical connectors from the junction block. For earlier models, remove the cancel cam assembly and the hazard warning knob. Remove the column housing cover screw, unplug the electrical connector behind the turn signal lever, and detach the wiring protector from under the steering column, separating the wiper pulse switch wires before removing the switch and wires. Don't forget to remove the plastic spacer in the lower left corner of the housing and the under-dash panel below the steering column. Remove the steering column bracket bolts and lower the steering column from the dash, then locate and detach the turn signal switch electrical connector wires. Remove the turn signal switch mounting screws, pull the wiring harness and electric connector up through the steering column, and remove the switch assembly. For installation, ensure the airbag coil is centered before installing the steering wheel, feeding the turn signal switch connector and wiring harness down through the column. Plug in the connector, replace the wiring protector, seat the turn signal switch on the column, and install the mounting screws and lever arm. Install the hazard knob and multi-function lever, pressing the lever straight in until it snaps in place. For 1996 and earlier models, install the cancel cam and lock plate, depressing the lock plate to install the retaining ring. If necessary, center the airbag coil by depressing the spring lock, rotating the hub, and releasing the spring lock. Finally, install the wave washer and airbag coil, ensuring it is centered with the marks aligned, and install the airbag coil retaining snap-ring. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.
