The fuel pump operation can be checked by listening for a soft whirring sound when the ignition key is turned ON. If the pump does not come on, check the fuel pump fuse, relay, and wiring. To check fuel pressure, locate the Schrader valve test port and connect a fuel pressure gauge. Start the engine and note the gauge reading. If pressure is lower than specified, suspect a restricted fuel filter or blockages in fuel lines. If the pressure regulator is okay, the fuel pump module or
Fuel Injectors may be clogged or defective. If pressure is higher than specified, check the
Fuel Pressure Regulator or return side fuel lines. After turning off the engine, verify that fuel pressure does not lose more than 8 psi in five minutes and check for any fuel leaks when starting the engine.
