Q:
How do you disassemble the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module for Saturn LS,LS1? Posted by Customer
A:
To disassemble the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module, start by removing it from the vehicle. Place it on a clean workbench surface and disconnect the two fuel level sensor leads from the harness clips on the side of the module. Next, disconnect the positive and ground wires from the top of the fuel pump and detach the connector housing from the bottom of the fuel pump cover by disengaging the locking tab. To remove the fuel level sensor unit, depress the locking tab and slide it toward the upper end of the fuel pump assembly until it's free of its retaining rails. To reassemble, slide the fuel level sensor unit back into place until you hear a click, ensuring that the float arm is correctly aligned. Verify this by placing the fuel pump module on a flat horizontal surface and checking that the float lays flat. Finally, reinstall the module following the reverse of the removal process.

Q:
How to check the fuel pump operation and fuel pressure for Saturn LS,LS1? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel pump operation can be checked by listening for a soft whirring sound when the ignition key is turned to ON. If the pump does not come on, the fuel pump fuse, relay, and wiring should be checked. If these are all okay, the fuel pump may be defective or the PCM may be faulty. To check the fuel pressure, locate the Schrader valve test port and connect a fuel pressure gauge. Start the engine and note the gauge reading. If the pressure is lower than specified, a restricted fuel filter or blockages in the fuel lines should be suspected. If the pressure regulator is okay, the fuel pump module or fuel injectors may be clogged or defective. If the pressure is higher than specified, the fuel pressure regulator or return side fuel lines should be checked. After turning off the engine, verify that the fuel pressure does not lose more than 8 psi in five minutes and check for any fuel leaks when starting the engine.
