The lower crankcase is removed.

The crankshaft removal process requires the engine to be removed from the vehicle. Before removing the crankshaft, the endplay must be measured using a dial indicator or feeler gauges. The lower crankcase bolts are then loosened and removed, followed by the removal of the lower crankcase. The crankshaft can then be carefully lifted out of the engine with the help of an assistant. To install the crankshaft, the engine block and crankshaft must be cleaned and inspected. The original bearing inserts are removed and the bearing surfaces are cleaned. The new upper and lower main bearing inserts are placed in their respective locations, ensuring proper alignment. The crankshaft is then laid in position in the cylinder block. The main bearing oil clearance is checked using Plastigage, and if necessary, different bearing inserts may be required. The Plastigage material is scraped off and the crankshaft is lifted out of the cylinder block. The bearing insert faces in the cylinder block are cleaned and lubricated, and the crankshaft is placed back in position. The lower crankcase is installed, and all bolts are tightened to the correct torque. The crankshaft endplay is rechecked, and the crankshaft is rotated by hand to ensure smooth movement. Finally, the rear main oil seal is installed.
