    Q:
How to remove the oil pan and properly install the Harmonic Balancer assembly in 2.5L four cylinder engine on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Kodey L.
    A:
The oil pan can be removed in the following manner, Bolts which hold the harmonic balancer assembly should be loosened first and then the assembly should be lowered gently. This is followed by rotating the engine so that either the number 1 or 4 cylinder is at the Top Dead Center. Place the balancer assembly with the balance weights at BOC with plus or minus one-half gear tooth acceptance. It is necessary that the end of the housing without the dowel pins comes into contact with the engine block surface; if it comes out of contact, then the gears will not engage and there could be defects. Next, replace the retaining bolts and one will tighten them in the pattern like an "X" crossover pattern after that; replace the oil pan.
