    Q:
What is the purpose and inspection process for a serpentine drive belt on Chevrolet Avalanche? Posted by Customer
    A:
The serpentine belt is found in front of the engine and is essential for driving the engine and its components. In view of what it does and how it is made, this belt should be checked regularly. The serpentine belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and air conditioning compressor. With the engine not running, lift the hood and feel along the belt for any cracks or separations in the belts layers using your fingers (and a flashlight if needed). Also check for fraying and glazing that gives the belt a glossy appearance. You may have to twist the belt in order to inspect both sides of it. Inspect its lower side as well. They should all look similar, with none of them having an uneven surface. The tensioner system uses a spring-loaded tensioner assembly and cannot be adjusted manually. Replace this part when you can see that mark on moving part of the tensioner has moved out of range on stationary part of tensioner. To fit a new one turn the tensioner to allow release of a belt's pressure . This will entail removing it from such devices as a tension and auxiliary components, thereafter allowing slow release of a tensioner until it gets slack enough for removal of the belt. Route new belt over various pulleys again rotateingtensionerto permit installation thenreleasebelt's tensioners To replace faulty pulley/bearing, binding or lack of springiness on a tensioner remove mounting bolts. Follow reverse process during installation.

    Q:
What is the importance of the serpentine drive belt and how should it be inspected and replaced on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
A serpentine drive belt is situated to the front of the engine and it is vital for the function of the engine and its parts, which comprises the alternator, electric power assisted steering, the water pump and air conditioning unit. The belt is an easily wearable component because of its function and nature of construction; therefore, it needs periodical check-ups. When the engine is cooled down, turn off the car and look at the belt: there should be no cracks, plys separated from each other, fraying and glazing on both sides of the belt. In the present design, ribs on the underside should be of equal thickness. The belt tension is set by a spring-loaded tensioner assembly that cannot be adjusted; replacement is required when an arrow on the tensioner lines up with an indexing mark on it. To remove the belt, turn the tensioner clockwise to reduce tension so as to take the belt off the tensioner and other accessories while still unscrewing the tensioner fully. After that ensures that the new belt has the right length after stretching, take it through the pulleys while turning the tensioner to enable the installation process. For tensioner replacement, first, remove the belt Then, for the six-cylinder engines remove the tensioner mounting bolt or for V8 engines remove the mounting bolts and then installation is done in reverse of the procedure removing the bolt and indexing the dowel on the six-cylinder engines.

    Q:
What is the importance of the serpentine drive belt and how should it be inspected and replaced on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
A serpentine drivebelt is sited in front of the engine and is very vital to the functioning of the engine as well as its parts by turning the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and the air conditioning compressor. Because of the role that it plays and the material of which it is made, the belt tends to wear out quickly and should therefore be checked regularly. After switching the engine off, open the hood and look at the belt so as to determine if it has cracks, if the plies of the belt are separated or in case it has developed frays or glazing; this should be done on both faces. The ribs on the underside should be of equal depth with out any form of inconsistency on the surface. An internal spring operate tensioner is provided for maintaining the belt tension which is not user adjustable; the tensioner assembly is to be replaced when the mark on the tensioner arm is in line with the indexing mark on the tensioner body. To remove the belt, loosen the tensioner counter clockwise and use the drivebelt tool if required, the belt can then be removed from the tensioner and auxiliary components before releasing the tensioner slowly. Once verify that new belt has the right length direct it over the idler andCtr pulleys while turning the tensioner to enable the new belt to be fixed before the release of it. For tensioner replacement, first remove the belt and then the tensioner mounting bolt, installation is done in a reverse way but make sure that the indexing dowel fits into the correct hole on the mounting surface.

    Q:
What are the steps to replace the serpentine drivebelt for the 2010 Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the serpentine drivebelt, rotate the tensioner clockwise to relieve tension (using a drivebelt tool if needed), then remove the belt from the tensioner and auxiliary components before slowly releasing the tensioner. After confirming the new belt matches the original length, route it over the pulleys, rotating the tensioner to facilitate installation before releasing it.
