The power brake booster unit requires no special maintenance apart from periodic inspection of the vacuum hose and the case. Disassembly of the power unit requires special tools and is not ordinarily performed by the home mechanic. If a problem develops, it's recommended that a new or factory rebuilt unit be installed. In the engine compartment, remove the nuts attaching the master cylinder to the booster and carefully pull the master cylinder, along with the RWAL control module and isolation/dump valve, forward until it clears the mounting studs. Be careful not to bend or kink the brake lines. Disconnect the vacuum hose where it attaches to the power brake booster. In the passenger compartment, disconnect the power brake pushrod from the top of the brake pedal. On some models it will be necessary to remove the lower dash panel, then unbolt and lower the steering column for access to the pushrod and booster mounting nuts. Remove the four nuts attaching the booster to the firewall. Carefully lift the booster unit away from the firewall and out of the engine compartment. To install the booster, place it into position and tighten the retaining nuts. Connect the brake pedal. Install the master cylinder and vacuum hose. Carefully test the operation of the brakes before placing the vehicle in normal operation.

Plug all openings to prevent contamination.

Follow the reverse steps of removal to reinstall the brake booster.
