To remove the clutch components without taking the engine out, start by removing the transaxle from the vehicle. Ensure proper engine support using an engine support fixture or hoist. To support the clutch disc during removal, use a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub. Examine the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks or create your own for proper alignment. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a criss-cross pattern, remove them, and then take off the pressure plate and clutch disc. Inspect the flywheel for defects, which can be rectified by machining the surface flat and smooth at a machine shop. Examine the clutch disc lining for wear and damage, with special attention to loose rivets, cracks, or broken springs/dampers. Generally, replace the clutch disc. Replace the clutch release cylinder/release bearing as well. Inspect the pressure plate for wear, damage, or excessive glazing, and replace if necessary. Clean the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces thoroughly with a suitable solvent. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel with an alignment tool and ensure proper alignment of the clutch disc. Tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque, centering the clutch disc as needed. Install the clutch release cylinder, re-install the transaxle and all previously removed components.
