- A:Remove the cable from the negative battery terminal. On models equipped with the Delco Loe If audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure that requires disconnecting the battery. Remove the drive belt. With the parking brake applied and the shifter in Park (automatic) or in gear (manual), raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the right front tire and the inner fender splash shield. On 1989 and later models, remove the pulley to hub bolts. Then, on all models, remove the crankshaft pulley to crankshaft bolt. A breaker bar will probably be needed since the bolt is very tight. If necessary, remove the lower bell housing cover and insert a large screwdriver into the teeth of the flywheel/driveplate ring gear to prevent the crankshaft from turning. Using a puller, remove the crankshaft pulley or hub from the crankshaft. Apply a thin layer of clean multipurpose grease to the seal contact surface of the hub. Position the hub on the crankshaft and slide it through the seal until it bottoms against the crankshaft gear. Note that the slot (keyway) in the hub must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the end of the crankshaft. The pulley to crankshaft bolt can be used to press the hub into position. Tighten the pulley to crankshaft bolt. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
