    Q:
How to remove and replace a power steering pump on L4 engine on Buick Skylark? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise the front of the car and support it with jackstands. Remove the radiator hose clamp bolt. Disconnect the pressure hose from its fitting on the rear of the pump. Remove the clamp that secures the flexible return hose to its rigid steel line and disconnect the hose from the line. Loosen the pump's attaching bolts and nuts, move the pump toward the engine and remove the belt from the pulley. Remove the bolt and spacer used in the upper rear mounting location of the pump that holds the pump to the bracket. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the left pump bracket to the engine block. Remove the pump and left pump bracket. Remove the pump from the pump bracket. Remove the 3 bolts that secure the right pump bracket to the pump. If the power steering pump needs replacing, a rebuilt unit can be obtained and is less expensive than a new pump. Install the pump by reversing the removal procedure. Adjust the belt tension. Bleed the power steering system.

    Q:
What type of Power Steering Pump fluid is recommended for power steering systems and what are the guidelines for checking and maintaining the power steering fluid level on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Use DEXRON® Automatic Transmission Fluid on 1975-76 vehicles. On 1977-87 models require GM power steering fluid or an equivalent specifically tested and approved for operation in GM power steering systems. When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use GM P/N 1050017 power steering fluid or equivalent. Power steering fluid level should be checked at least once every 7,500 miles (12,000 km). To prevent possible overflowing, check the fluid level only when the fluid has warmed to operating temperature and the wheels are turned straight ahead. If the level is low, fill the pump reservoir until the fluid level measures full on the reservoir dipstick. Low fluid level usually produces a moaning sound as the wheels are turned (especially when standing still or parking) and increases steering wheel effort.

    Q:
How to disconnect and remove the blower motor, drain the radiator, and replace the power steering pump on V6 engine on Oldsmobile Omega? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, disconnect the negative battery terminal then unplug the electrical connector. After that, remove the blower motor. Drain the radiator and disconnect the heater hose at the water pump. Disconnect pressure and return hoses from their connections. Remove 5 bolts securing right pump bracket to pump and rear engine head. Loosen pump mounting bolts, move pump towards engine and remove belt from pulley. Take out pump from left pump bracket and remove it from engine compartment. If power steering pump needs replacing, a rebuilt unit is less expensive than a new one can be obtained. Install the pump by doing the removal procedure backwards. Adjust belt tension and bleed power steering system.
