    Q:
How to remove, install, and prime a power steering pump on Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the hydraulic hoses either from the pump or the steering gear and suspend them in the raised position to avoid loss of fluid prior to plugging. To do this loosen the two black nuts on the sides and the green nut of pump mounts; this should push the pump towards the engine releasing the belt. Remove the screws and nuts of the pump mounting and the braces, and then withdraw the pump. In order to replace the pump pulley, a special extractor will probably be required and the exact type of extractor will depend upon the actual pulley; check with your dealer if necessary. This involves the reverse process of that of removal, and care has to be taken to tighten the hose unions to the recommended torque, before charging the fluid reservoir. To apply prime, rotate the pulley in the opposite direction to normal for as long of time until no more bubbles will rise from the fluid, after this look through the reservoir filler cap. Last, there is the drive belt which should be properly fitted and then the belt should be tensioned before the system is bled.

    Q:
How to disconnect the hydraulic hoses and remove the Power Steering Pump on Chevrolet El Camino? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from either the pump or the steering gear, keeping them raised to prevent fluid drainage until they can be plugged. Remove the pump drive belt by loosening the pump mounts and pushing it towards the engine. Unscrew and take out the pump mounting bolts and braces, then remove the pump. The pump pulley will likely require a special extractor for removal, with the type depending on the specific pulley fitted; consult your dealer if needed. Installation involves reversing the removal process, ensuring to tighten the hose unions to the specified torque before filling the fluid reservoir. Prime the pump by turning the pulley in the opposite direction of normal rotation until air bubbles stop emerging from the fluid observed through the reservoir filler cap. Finally, install and tension the drive belt, then bleed the system.
