Q:
How to replace hardened, cracked, or separated rubber mounts on 2.2L four cylinder engine on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer
A:
If the rubber mounts have hardened, cracked or separated from the metal backing plates, they must be replaced. This operation may be carried out with the engine/transmission still in the vehicle. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Support the engine with a jack. Position a wood block between the jack head and the oil pan and raise it enough to take the tension off the mounts. If equipped, remove the metal heat shield over the mount. Remove the engine mount through-boll. Remove the mount-to-engine bolts and remove the mount. Place the new mount in position. Install the mount-to-engine bolts, lower the engine and install the through-bolt. Tighten all fasteners. Remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle.

Q:
How to check and replace engine mounts on 4.3L V6 engine on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer
A:
Engine mounts rarely need attention, but if they are broken or deteriorated, they should be replaced immediately to prevent damage to the driveline components due to added strain. During the check, the engine must be slightly raised to remove the weight from the mounts. This can be done by raising the vehicle and supporting it on jackstands, then positioning a jack under the engine oil pan. A large block of wood should be placed between the jack head and the oil pan, and the engine should be carefully raised just enough to take the weight off the mounts. The mounts should then be checked for cracked, hardened, or separated rubber. Rubber preservative or WD-40 can be applied to slow down deterioration. Relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame should also be checked. If movement is noted, the engine should be lowered and the mount fasteners tightened. For replacement, the negative battery cable should be disconnected from the battery. The vehicle should then be raised and supported on jackstands. An engine hoist should be attached to the top of the engine for lifting. The engine should be slightly raised, then the through-bolt nuts removed and the mount through-bolt withdrawn from the frame bracket. The engine should be raised further until the engine mount can be unbolted from the block. Installation is the reverse of removal. Loctite should be used on the mount bolts and they should be tightened securely.
