- Q:How to remove the Engine Control Module on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
- A:To remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on six-cylinder models, caution should be taken to avoid static electricity damage. Ground yourself to the vehicle body before touching the PCM and use an anti-static pad to store the PCM once removed. Note that when replacing the PCM with a new unit, it must be reprogrammed with special equipment and undergo a crankshaft position sensor variation relearn procedure and a vehicle anti-theft system password relearn procedure. The following procedure is for removal and installation of the original PCM only. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and clean any debris around the PCM connectors. Unscrew the bolts and carefully disconnect the electrical connectors from the PCM. Remove the PCM by unscrewing the mounting bolts and nuts. For V8 models from 2002 to 2004, follow the same steps for disconnecting the battery cable and cleaning debris around the PCM connectors. Remove the cover from the PCM and detach the PCM retainer latch. Release the mounting tabs and remove the PCM from the bracket. Loosen the bolts and carefully disconnect the electrical connections from the PCM. For V8 models from 2005 and later, disconnect the battery cable and cooling fan electrical connector. Remove the cover from the ECM and clean debris from around the electrical connectors. Disconnect the bank of three electrical connectors from the ECM. Detach the ECM retainer latches, tilt the top of the ECM away from the bracket, and remove the ECM.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
