- A:To remove the tie-rod end, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Support the vehicle securely and remove the wheel. Loosen the tie-rod end jam nut and mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion of the tie-rod. This will ensure the toe-in setting is restored during reassembly. Use a puller to loosen the ball stud from the steering knuckle arm and remove the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm. Unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. To install the tie-rod end, thread it onto the tie-rod to the marked position and insert the tie-rod end ball stud into the steering knuckle arm. Install the nut onto the ball stud and tighten it to the proper torque specifications. Tighten the jam nut securely and install the wheel. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, have the front-end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
