Q:
How to remove and install rocker arms and rocker arm shaft assembly? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the rocker arm covers, then the rocker arm shaft assembly bolts, and finally the rocker arm shaft assembly. To remove the rocker arms from the shaft, the nylon arm retainers must be removed. This can be done with a pair of pliers, or they can be broken by hitting them below the head with a chisel. Once removed, take the rocker arms from the shaft, ensuring they are kept in order. Note that the external rib on each arm points away from the rocker arm shaft bolt located between each pair of rocker arms. If installing new rocker arms, note that the replacement rocker arms are marked R and L for right and left side installation and should not be interchanged. Install the rocker arms on the shaft and lubricate them with oil. Install new nylon retainers using a hammer and a drift of ½ in. (13mm) diameter or larger. Finally, install the rocker shaft and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
