    Q:
How to assemble Cylinder Head in V8 engine on Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check all parts of the valve mechanism for cleanliness and absence of carbon and dirt; that the bare cylinder head or flat is clean and not in contact with/carry abrasive materials used for valve grinding or reaming. There should be an insertion of a valve for the right port and the spring and damper, and shield, and cap of the valve spring of that specific cylinder should be assembled. Place the assembly with the over the valve stem and utilize the valve spring compressor to hold it in place. Make the locks to fit tightly in the upper groove of the valve stem then put the value locks and lastly release the compressor. Ensure the height of the valves springs installed is checked by using a small thin scale from the top of shim if fitted, the spring seat to the top most point of the valve spring or the valve spring shield if fitted. If required, one may place spacer under the valve spring to get the right figure, but to coming in with an installed height less than the stipulated minimum length is prohibited. If the spring is too short, it is mounted for a new one. Last but not the least put a new oil seal with the flat side facing down on the lower groove of valve stem but not twisted.

    Q:
How to assemble a Cylinder Head in V8 engine on Chevrolet El Camino? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check that all parts of the valve mechanism are clean and free from carbon and dirt; the bare cylinder head should be clean with no abrasive particles which were used on valve reconditioning. Install a valve in the right port and fit the valve spring assembly of that cylinder which includes; spring, damper, shield, and cap. Fit the valve spring compressor over the valve stem and tighten to squash the assembly together. Mount a new oil seal in the lower groove of the valve stem, it should lie flat and should not be twisted. After that, tighten the valve locks and then open the compressor where the lock must sit well in the upper catch of the valve stem. Measure the installed height of the valve springs by using a narrow thin scale from the top of the shim if fitted, or from the spring seat to the top of the valve spring or spring shield if used. Should the valve spring installed height be slightly less than the minimum specified length, shims may be inserted under the spring to provide the required installed height but the latter should not be less than the minimum specified length. If the spring is rather short, it is necessary to change it to a new one.
