    A:
Take off the seal and then, an effectively designed bushing removal and installation tool can be used to drive the bushing into the extension housing. Next, hammer the new bushing in from the rear, whilst at the same time making sure the inside of the bushing and seal has been lubricated. Q:
How to replace Transfer Case Seal on Chevrolet Caprice? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is possible to make this operation on the transmission while it is still mounted on the car in question. Park the car over a raised platform, or otherwise lift it on a jack but have it supported by jack stands. Remove the gearbox shaft connection to the driveshaft and use a screwdriver or a chisel to remove the bad rubber seal. Paint gasket sealer all the way around the outside edge of the new seal, place the piece of pipe or a socket over the sealer and tap it with a hammer until the new seal is installed. Last, but not least, fit in the driveshaft of the vehicle and check the fluid quantity in the transmission unit.

To remove and replace a transfer case seal on a vehicle, first raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. To remove the seal, pry it out with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, being careful not to damage the seal bore.

    Q:
Which transfer case seals can be replaced without removing the transmission on Oldsmobile Cutlass? Posted by Customer
    A:
The following oil seals can be replaced without removing the transmission from the car, the speedometer gear seal as well as the extension oil seal. In order to remove the seal of the speedometer gear, first, the car has to be lifted to get access to the link underneath and the car is to be fixed on stands firmly. Remove the cable from the speedometer, then unscrew the lockwasher, bolt and lockplate for the extension, then remove this lockplate. Loosen and then remove the fitting gear and shaft from the extension using a screwdriver then pop out the O-ring. For installation: reverse the information provided under removal procedure, do not forget to lubricate the new seal with transmission lubricant and, thereafter, the pouring of the assembly so that the slot in the fitting is in engages with the lockplate boss on the extension. For the extension oil seal first unbolt the drive shaft and any other items needed for extra space for the seal. Very gently remove the previous seal and ascertain the condition of the counter bore before washing it. Before assembling the new seal to the shaft the spaces between the lips of the new seal should be pre-coated with the transmission lubricants while the outer diameter should be coated with an appropriate sealant. To install the seal, place the lips towards the center and remain in this position until the flange comes into contact with the surface, in the process a tubular spacer can be used. Last but not the least, replace every other component that you might have removed from the vehicle such as the drive shaft.

    Q:
How to replace the transfer case seal on Oldsmobile Cutlass? Posted by Customer
    A:
The above operation can be performed with the transmission in situ that is without having to extract the transmission from the car. Park the car over some pit if possible or else raise it with a jack and support it with jack stands. Remove the driveshaft from the transmission just as you have done before as explained below; Tap at the mix and chip out the bad seal with a screwdriver or chisel by wedging it under the seal and prying it up. Level: Jointing compound on the outside of the new seal and force it in the proper position with tubing as a drift. Last, put the driveshaft back then measure the amount of the fluid required by the transmission unit.
