How to replace wheel seals in Automatic transaxle on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Wheel leaks frequently occur due to wear of the wheel seals. Replacement of these seals is relatively easy since the repairs can be performed without removing the transaxle from the vehicle. The wheel seals are located on the sides of the transaxle, where the driveaxles are attached. If leakage at the seal is suspected, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. If the seal is leaking, fluid will be found on the sides of the transaxle. To remove the left-side seal, remove the snap-ring on the stub shaft and use a screwdriver or seal removal tool to carefully pry the wheel seal out of the transaxle bore. Measure the distance that the stub axle protrudes beyond the sleeve and remove the sleeve from the stub shaft using a special puller. Compare the old seal to the new one to ensure it's the correct one. For installation, coat the new seal with transmission fluid and use a seal installation tool to drive it into the bore. Use a special tool to press the new sleeve onto the stub shaft and install a new snap-ring on the stub shaft before installing the driveaxle.

    Q:
How to replace wheel seals in Manual transaxle on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
At times, there occur lubricant leaks due to wear of the wheel seals which is easy to replace because repairs can be performed without removing the transaxle from the vehicle. These seals are positioned on both sides of the transaxle where the inner Constant Velocity (CV) joints are splined into the differential. If leakage at the seal is suspected, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. If there is a leak in the seal, fluid will be present on that side of the transaxle. Remove drive axles. In case you're replacing the right side Wheel Seal, remove the intermediate shaft too. Using a suitable prybar or screwdriver, carefully pry the oil seal out of the transaxle bore. A special oil seal removal tool (available at auto parts stores) may be necessary if this fails using a screwdriver or prybar. Use a large deep socket as a drift or a seal driver to install the new oil seal. It must be driven squarely into the bore until it seats flush with the transaxle case. Apply multi-purpose grease to the lip of the new seal before installing it onto the drive axle assembly. The lip of the new seal should not be damaged during its installation process though being cautious about that is crucial. Check the level of lubricant in the transmission; add as needed.

How can wheel seals be replaced without removing the transaxle on Saturn Vue? Posted by Customer
    A:
Oil leaks frequently occur due to wear of the wheel seals, and replacement of these seals is relatively easy since the repair can be performed without removing the transaxle from the vehicle. Wheel seals are located at the sides of the transaxle, where the driveaxles are attached. If leakage at the seal is suspected, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands; if the seal is leaking, lubricant will be found on the sides of the transaxle and below the seals. Remove the driveaxle, then use a screwdriver or prybar to carefully pry the seal out of the transaxle bore. If the seal cannot be removed with these tools, a special seal removal tool, available at auto parts stores, will be required. Using a seal driver or a large deep socket slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal as a drift, install the new seal, driving it into the bore squarely and ensuring it is completely seated. Coat the seal lip with transaxle lubricant and install the driveaxle(s), being careful not to damage the lip of the new seal as the axles are slid back into place.

    Q:
How to Replace the Transfer Case Seal on Saturn Vue? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure applies only to NVG-900 transfer cases, as the output shaft seal on MJ-8 transfer cases is not normally serviced. Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands. Drain the transfer case lubricant, then remove the driveshaft. Mark the relative positions of the pinion, nut, and flange. Use a beam-or dial-type inch-pound torque wrench to determine the torque required to rotate the pinion and record it for later use. Count the number of threads visible between the end of the nut and the end of the pinion shaft, and record that as well. Remove the flange mounting nut using a chain wrench to hold the pinion flange while loosening the locknut. A small puller will be required to remove the companion flange, ensuring it has two bolts that screw into the companion flange. Pry out the seal with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, taking care not to damage the seal bore. Lubricate the lips of the new seal with multi-purpose grease and tap it evenly into position with a seal installation tool or a large socket, ensuring it enters the housing squarely and is tapped to its full depth. Align the mating marks made before disassembly and install the companion flange, tightening the pinion nut if necessary to draw the flange into place. Carefully tighten the nut until the original number of threads are exposed and the marks are aligned. Measure the torque required to rotate the pinion and tighten the nut in small increments until it matches the recorded figure. Finally, connect the driveshaft, add the specified lubricant to the transfer case, and lower the vehicle.
