    Q:
Are new and rebuilt cylinder heads commonly available for most engines at dealerships and auto parts stores on Pontiac Fiero? Posted by Customer
    A:
dealership and auto parts stores, new and rebuilt cylinder head for most types of engines are available. For some of the described disassembly and inspection procedures certain specific tools are required, and, since the spare parts are not always easy to come by it may be less time consuming and less costly to buy a new head altogether. Cylinder head disassembly entails the following; the elimination of the intake and exhaust valves and other related parts. The next step require the removal of the rocker arms, so use the nut/bolt and rocker arm's socket to remove the nuts/bolts and come off the head from the rocker arms, make sure to put a tag on your nut/bolt or write on it and keep all rocker parts separate so that in the future during reassembly it will be very easy to fit it back again in the original style. Check valve spring installed height for each valve and compare with that of the standard length, This can be done by measuring from the head surface or shim to the underside of the retainer. Don't forget to take the measurement of its height again after discharging all the springs but before reassembling all the piece together of the valve in the head inclusive of the springs. If loss of height is likely to be a problem, a piece of welding rod or stiff wire can be measured off to the standard length indicated. Remove the keepers while the valve spring is still clamped in the spring compressor by using another fork to push down the retainers so that you can extract the shield, spring, valve guide seal, if any springs seat shim, and valve from the head. I appreciate it and For a valve that binds and will not pull through the head, the procedure is to push it back in and take a fine file or whetstone and debur the region around the keeper groove. Do the same for all the valves; organize and label the valve spring assemblies as they are removed for future replacement. When all the valves are removed and properly stowed, wash and examine the head undertaking such other procedures on the engine that are required prior to washing the head.
