- A:To remove and install the engine, start by draining the oil and removing the engine from the car. Mount the engine on a work stand with the oil pan facing up. Remove the front cover, timing chain and gears, oil pan, and oil pump. Stamp the cylinder number on the connecting rod bolt bosses and caps for identification. Remove the connecting rod caps and install rubber hose to protect the crank journals. Mark the main bearing caps for reinstallation. Remove all main bearing caps and carefully lift out the crankshaft. Clean and inspect the crankshaft main bearings, replacing both upper and lower halves if necessary. Check the clearance using Plastigage® and replace the bearings if needed. Install the bearings and crankshaft, torquing the cap bolts to specification. Finally, check the crankshaft end-play and install the rear main bearing oil seal.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
