To check the PCV valve on most engines (excluding 1995 and later 3800 engines), locate it in the valve cover or intake manifold behind the throttle body on 3.4L engines. While the engine is idling at normal operating temperature, remove the valve from its rubber grommet. Cover the valve's end with your finger and check for vacuum; if there's no vacuum, inspect for blockages in the hose, manifold port, or the valve itself, replacing any obstructed or deteriorated hoses. Turn off the engine, shake the PCV valve, and listen for a rattle; if there's no rattle, replace it. For 1995 and later 3800 engines, the PCV valve is situated in the intake manifold beneath the MAP sensor at the front of the engine. To assess it, remove the valve and shake it, listening for a rattle; if it doesn't rattle, replace it. To replace the PCV valve on all engines (except 1995 and later 3800 engines), pull it out of the hose, take note of its orientation, purchase a suitable replacement, and firmly push it into the hose, ensuring a snug fit. Inspect the rubber grommet for damage and replace if necessary. For 1995 and later 3800 engines, remove the fuel injector cover, disconnect the MAP sensor's electrical connector, unclip the sensor from the PCV valve access cover, and rotate the cover counterclockwise to remove it. Replace the PCV valve, making sure it matches the old one, and install it in reverse order, replacing the O-ring if needed.
